CARRYING MY CROSS CHAPTER 2 - THE NEW BEGINNING

                                💍 Chapter 2 – The New Beginning

Written by MysteriousBlessingz

The morning after the wedding, I woke up in a quiet hotel room in Masvingo town. The golden light from the window danced across the white sheets, and Hilton was still asleep beside me. His arm lay heavy across my waist — the weight of love, the warmth of promises.

I smiled.

“Mrs. Mukwasi…” I whispered softly to myself.
It sounded new, sweet, and powerful.

That day, everything felt perfect. We had breakfast together — bacon, eggs, toast — and he joked, “Vidah, from today, I’m your full-time husband and boss.”
I laughed and replied, “Then pay me first before you start giving orders.”

We laughed like two souls who had found home in each other.

When we returned to our new house in Gutu, life began to take shape. Hilton’s family welcomed me — some with open arms, others with quiet eyes full of judgment. His mother, Mai Hilton, hugged me tightly and whispered,

“Usatya mwanangu, ramba uchiteerera murume wako. Marriage inoda moyo mukuru.”
(Don’t be afraid my daughter, keep respecting your husband. Marriage needs a big heart.)

Those words sank deep in my spirit.
I promised myself to always be humble, loving, and faithful.

Our first weeks together were beautiful. Hilton loved showing me off. He would take me to town and say to everyone, “Muri kuona here mudzimai wangu uyu? Ndakamuroora nemari chaiyo!” — and people would laugh.

He spoiled me — flowers, perfumes, dresses, and weekend trips. I was living the dream every girl prays for.

But behind the laughter, I began to see small cracks — not dangerous yet, but unsettling. Hilton would get irritated easily when I asked questions. Sometimes he would come home late and say he had “business meetings.”

When I tried to talk about it, he would kiss my forehead and say,

“Vidah, don’t start. You know I’m working hard for us. Do you want to live poor?”

I would keep quiet, convincing myself, maybe he’s right.

At church, everyone saw us as the perfect couple. People admired us — “the Mukwasis, the blessed couple.” But inside my heart, a small voice whispered something I didn’t understand yet.

“Not everything that shines is gold.”

Still, I chose love over doubt. I chose prayer over confrontation. I carried my cross — quietly, lovingly, and faithfully.
